Organising Committee of the Summer School Oncology 2026

Student Committee
For each edition of the Summer School of Oncology, a new committee of motivated medical students is formed to organize the program. The student committee plays a key role in shaping the Summer School, contributing fresh ideas and ensuring that the program remains relevant, engaging and well-organized.
The committee is responsible for coordinating the educational and scientific program, inviting speakers, organizing social activities and supporting participants throughout the week. By working closely with the academic staff, the student committee helps maintain the high quality and international character of the Summer School of Oncology!
Below, we proudly introduce the medical students who make up the organizing committee for the 2026 edition.

Since 2016, she has been involved in the Summer School as a staff member, primarily contributing to the educational program. Her long-standing commitment reflects both her passion for education and her enthusiasm for sharing knowledge with others.
In addition to what she describes as the best job in the world, she enjoys outdoor swimming, hiking, and singing. Together with her husband, she has three adult children and is a proud grandmother to three granddaughters. She is very much looking forward to the Summer School.

dr. Annemarie Leliveld-Kors
dr. Annemarie Leliveld-Kors is an oncological urologist whose work focuses on the treatment of patients with bladder cancer. Every week, she performs bladder resections due to bladder cancer, an experience that has reinforced her conviction that prevention is one of the most powerful ways to save lives. She envisions a world in which people no longer smoke, recognizing smoking prevention as a crucial step in reducing the burden of bladder cancer.
At the same time, when surgery is necessary, she is committed to performing it in the most sustainable way possible. She is deeply aware that surgeons produce substantial waste and contribute significantly to the carbon footprint within hospitals. This awareness has shaped her commitment to advancing more sustainable surgical practices, combining high-quality patient care with responsibility for environmental impact.
Prof. dr. Geke Hospers
dr. Geke Hospers is a medical oncologist and has been emeritus professor since November 20, 2025. For nearly 40 years, she has been deeply involved in medical oncology at the University Medical Center Groningen. Her work has focused on treating patients with various types of cancer using systemic therapies and guiding them—and their families—through often long and challenging journeys. Throughout her career, she has come to understand that oncology is not only about medicine, but also about building trust, offering hope, and supporting people over many years. These relationships have been among the most meaningful aspects of her work.
Outside of medicine, she and her husband Piet raised five children, and they now enjoy being grandparents to six grandchildren, ages 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, and 2. Every two weeks, they spend time together with their grandchildren.
Her recent retirement marks a new chapter filled with new activities and opportunities, one of which is the upcoming Summer School 2026, which she looks forward to contributing to with enthusiasm.

dr. Gyuri Halmos
dr. Gyuri Halmos is an ENT specialist and head and neck oncologist, who is dedicated to helping patients every day and values being involved throughout the full course of care—from the beginning of diagnosis, through surgery when needed, and during follow-up after treatment. A strong commitment to high-quality care guides his work. While protocols provide an important foundation, the goal is always to tailor treatment to the possibilities and wishes of patients and their loved ones.
In addition to patient care, he is actively involved in several clinical and basic scientific research projects. Research is conducted through broad collaboration with colleagues and includes supervising PhD students, a role that is especially rewarding. The challenges of research continue to inspire critical thinking and ongoing development.
A third major area of commitment is education and training. As an academic physician, he is involved in the education of medical students, the residency training of future ENT specialists, and the fellowship training of head and neck surgeons. The Summer School Oncology is considered the icing on the cake: a unique and highly interactive educational experience, where working with enthusiastic and talented students is a true pleasure.
Prof. dr. Frank Kruyt
Prof. dr. Frank Kruyt is a molecular and cellular biologist and professor of experimental oncology at the department of medical oncology at the UMCG. His research focuses on understanding the biology that drives cancer in order to identify new therapeutic targets and translational research to study potential experimental therapies- particularly in brain tumours.
He is also an examiner, coordinator, and teacher in biology and biomedical research programs.
